Fuzziness, uncertainty and bipolarity : a critical review

چکیده
1. Gradualness: the idea that many categories in natural language are a matter of degree, including truth. The extension of a gradual predicate is a fuzzy set, a set where the transition between membership and non-membership is gradual rather than abrupt. This is Zadeh’s original intuition [29]. 2. Epistemic Uncertainty: the idea of partial or incomplete information. In its most primitive form, it is often described by means of a set of possible values of some quantity of interest, one and only one of which is the right one. This is possibility theory [31]. 3. Bipolarity : the idea that information can be described by distinguishing between positive and negative sides, possibly handled separately [16], as it seems to be the case in the human brain [2].

A Multi-Criteria Analysis Model under an Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Environment with an Application to Production Project Decision Problems
Using Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) to solve complicated decisions often includes uncertainty, which could be tackled by utilizing the fuzzy sets theory. Type-2 fuzzy sets consider more uncertainty than type-1 fuzzy sets. These fuzzy sets provide more degrees of freedom to illustrate the uncertainty and fuzziness in real-world production projects. In this paper, a new multi-criteria ana...
متن کاملA research on classification performance of fuzzy classifiers based on fuzzy set theory
Due to the complexities of objects and the vagueness of the human mind, it has attracted considerable attention from researchers studying fuzzy classification algorithms. In this paper, we propose a concept of fuzzy relative entropy to measure the divergence between two fuzzy sets. Applying fuzzy relative entropy, we prove the conclusion that patterns with high fuzziness are close to the classi...
متن کاملFUZZY INFORMATION AND STOCHASTICS
In applications there occur different forms of uncertainty. The twomost important types are randomness (stochastic variability) and imprecision(fuzziness). In modelling, the dominating concept to describe uncertainty isusing stochastic models which are based on probability. However, fuzzinessis not stochastic in nature and therefore it is not considered in probabilisticmodels.Since many years t...
متن کاملUncertainty and fuzziness: from natural language to argumentation models
Uncertainty and fuzziness pervade natural language both explicitly and implicitly. The explicit presence of uncertainty and fuzziness is exemplified by statements like "I believe that tomorrow will probably be a bit colder than today", while the presence of implicit uncertainty and/or fuzziness can be referred to background domain knowledge, e.g. in the statement "Tomorrow will be rainy because...
متن کاملP149: Depression in Cancer Patients: A Critical Review
Cancer patients experience several stressors and emotional upheavals. Fear of death, interruption of life plans, changes in body image and self-esteem, changes in social role and lifestyle are all important issues to be faced. Moreover, depressive disorders may impact the course of the disease and compliance. The cost and prevalence, the impairment caused and the diagnostic and therapeutic unce...
